Leadership styles for the future.....

Extract from our New Public (prior clients only) Course: "The Genius Entrepreneur and Business Leaders"

The foundational Leadership styles of Integrity, forthrightness, visionary, inspirational, "Can Do, Will Do, Have Done" with Trust building will still be an imperative, as we live in a "Action Based" world (e.g. we still need infrastructure etc). One of my favorite quadrants designs for Leadership is the SAS, Green Beret's analysis of each other. With the X Axis being expertise (skill, knowledge, experience) and Y Axis Trust.


With the top (right) quartile/quadrant being, Trust AND Expertise when ranking the person next to you, you pick, who could have your life in their hands! Trust is so important that even with low expertise and high trust they would still pick this squad-team member (over low trust but high expertise), as expertise can still be learnt.


But Trust, or lack of, creates uncertainty to the task at hand, no sense or purpose investing into staff members whom are NOT trustworthy. Unless you are confident you can instill new values, morals and mental frameworks for their inner psycho-dynamics to process through and apply.


I spent 5 years doing executive coaching before consulting. And the final analysis was they have to really want it !....One of favorite sayings at the time, when talking with CEO's or senior executives was:


"I would rather have 500 hp engine in a VW with a full tank, with right morals and values and teachable, than, a brand new Red Ferrari with 350 hp but no fuel!"


Essence and substance is still key!, but being able to REACH your staff for empowerment leading to breakthroughs and more motivations, will require some unique skills development, as you will have a diverse group to appeal too!


Some new Leadership styles for the future of your business will be:


1/ The combination of emotional, mental, intellectual and social resonance for empowerment,

2/ Depth of expression through story telling with examples for emotional depth impact, to create a "pump and resource" to call upon for them in difficult times for your staff,

3/ A unique synthesis of integrity (honesty, transparency, forthrightness, loyalty etc), positive belief with vulnerability.

And if you are surrounded by "sharks in the water" (undermining, back biting/back stabbing, reputation destruction, stealing other peoples ideas etc), wanting your position, then you need to attend to the culture...ASAPS!,

4/ Learn how to oscillate between fundamental sub or core Leadership styles, e.g. the visionary, the emotional genius, the states person, the motivator, the power house, the mentor/ people builder. Applying the right sub leadership style depending on the situation at hand.


As the bandwidth rises (a rising tide of your key staff) in development of intellectual, emotional, social and business maturity and sophistication. Then the requirements, standards and expectations as a leader will be elevated as well. However, one my mentors from 20 years ago taught me....


"The greatest Business Master (Leaders) creates Business Masters (Leaders) that surpass them!".....


One of the most empowering statements and truisms that I hang my baseball cap on even today!


However, choose wisely based on their character (Fair, Just, Balanced, Solution focus vs Story focus! etc ), before investing your "TEAMR", time, energy, attention, money and resources!
