6/ The New Inventor

 

Another “Classic” and even old business Archetype of the “Genius Entrepreneur” is the “New Inventor.” I am sure you could think of countless examples, from H Ford to Tesla, from Nokia to Apple, Coke starting up a massive industry in the early 1900s, streaming, and app services.


The speed of technology transfer globally is so fast compared to the start of the industrialized the era of early 1900’s. That is, it could be a challenge “IF” you have this as a core skill, ability, or trait unless the funding is substantial, or have a large “Moat” of protections (usually multiple) or its foundation is based on BOS (Blue Ocean Strategies, e.g. Circus Du Soleil).


This can also be a first-mover advantage or the first of its kind to begin a whole new era in business market generation, e.g., YouTube “Influencer” in the market of modern dating, information delivery via long-form interviews, a massive new industry! Tech integrated with the modernization of dating, mating, love, and commitment challenges.


This style can be rare these days and to maintain due to the volume of idea flow and funding available for small to medium start-ups. However, what is a good strategic application for this quality, is to look at your value chain both horizontal and vertical integration. Then apply new ideas, and technology for your business go to market in your industry with this strategic application, and market to your competitors.


You may find eventually you initiate a build-to-buy process from the MBA foundational teachings for strategic growth of Build/Buy/Borrow. Also, another successful strategy is to implement minor to macro inventions in-house that accumulate over time, either process improvement that adds up (the 1% principle, i.e. every day/week/month improve your business by 1% to edge in front of your competition, micro business evolution vs macro revolution).


Similar to going to the gym a few times weekly, rather than 1 large effort then burning out!
